It was 20 years ago today I handed in my notice in the NHS. Good bye Pharmacy … Hello Show Business! Thank you for being part of my exciting journey.
I grew up in Bridgend, South Wales. My initial interest in magic was sparked at age 8; I was given a magic set for Christmas. I have great memories of watching The Paul Daniels Magic Show with my Grandma and Grandad. They used to spoil me with cake and ice-cream and we loved watching his shows. Later on in life I reviewed a number of his TV shows for Abra magazine (the world’s only weekly magic magazine at that time, now defunct) and he was a major influence on my magical upbringing, helping to turn me into the sparkling patter comedy magician I am today.
I listened to my parents who encouraged me to do well at my school work. I had always taken an interest in my grandparents’ medications and thus embarked on a Pharmacy Degree at Manchester University. [Read more…]

Magic tricks boost confidence and self-discipline, says psychologist calling for lessons to be introduced to classrooms
The trick to making primary school children more confident and sociable is to teach them magic, claims Professor Richard Wiseman, psychologist at the Open University.
At the British Association for the Advancement of Science in Liverpool yesterday, he reported the results of his study of 50 pupils at two Hertfordshire schools, which compared his “magic school” lesson with a standard personal, social and health education (PSHE) lesson currently used to promote good health, confidence and social skills. Limiting fun? At a birthday party? Have I gone Mad? Even ‘Madder’ than usual? Well, not exactly… We both know how much children look forward to birthday parties, both their own and their friends too! Because of this some parents think that they should make the parties longer. More time = more fun, right? Unfortunately it doesn’t really work that way! After 2,576 (and counting!) parties, I’ve come to the conclusion that the perfect total length of a party should be about 2 hours. [Read more…]
